When I first started attending CSI I would eer see those old buildings whenever I would take the loop pile to depict to my class. I always wondered what used to be there. In my English111 class we were assigned to write a research composing on Staten Island and I chose to write it on Willow condense State School, because that is what the CSI campus used to be a long date ago.
Before CSI became the College of Staten Island, it was Willow Brook State School, which was an institute that was support by the state for kids who were mentally disencapable. It was built in the latish 1930s, the school didnt enroll a lot of students so it was used after world war two as a veterans hospital for injured and disabled war heroes. In the 1960s the school became well known. By 1965 over six thousand residents were living in the institute that was built to fight back only four thousand people and they were past the curtail by two thousand residents. The conditions in which the mentally retarded kids had lived in were horrifying; they were being mistreated as if they were a bunch of animals to be thrown around. Parents put their disabled shaver in this school because they were too hard to handle at home and were not given the attention that they needed.



They thought it would be a good idea for them to be put in this institute to get the attention they need, to have someone to public lecture and be able to learn but instead this can was a dark corner to throw children who werent pretty to look at.
As you would enter the buildings where these young mentally disabled kids were living in, there would be only one companion looking over fifty of them. The strong scent of pot would make your head spin; they would lay around bare-ass covered with their own feces. All of them would share the same toilets and get the same diseases from each other.
