The article An Evil Day for bilingual Education by Jorge Amselle, talks about the advantages of the English Immersion movement of instruction. Amselle talks about how districts that applied the immersion had significantly high achievement increases then that of the bilingual education programs, in which showed actually little improvement.
Amselle in addition states that Bilingual-education programs are unsuccessful because they support the theory that older students and adults learn languages easier and faster than young children do, and so to learn another language, they should be proficient and literate in their native language first, therefore leading them to spend 80% or 90% of the class taught in Spanish. Nevertheless, its not entirely correct. Amselle has only a minimal amount of evidence sustenance such matters and with the information not being fully accurate. though it is correct that English is not the main language students are taught in, they continue to study in their main language until they have mastered English and then are transferred into mainstream English classes [Ramirez 124]. It was also seen that students in the English Immersion made less comments than the students in Bilingual Education [Ramirez 147].
